Why is my chimney leaking inside?

A chimney typically has a cap that allows the smoke to escape but prevents the water from coming in. During a very windy storm in Fairfax City, rain that is driven sideways may get into your chimney. But if you have a leak on your roof near or above the chimney, that might be the cause. If your chimney is cracked the water will leak on the inside.
